Ny-Carlsberg Glyptotek 5/ - Degas' Sculptures

16:37
Ny-Carlsberg Glyptotek 5/ - Degas' Sculptures As seen through the lenses of my old HP Pocket Cam, iPhone, iPad Mini and my old Canon Cam These are bronze casts of the wax sculptures that have been salvaged in the studio of the artist after his death. There are four complete collections of Degas' Sculptures in the World. This is the best of them!!!! 74 bronze scupltures in all! The famous 14 yr Old Dancer included! Having seen this exhibition several times now, as well as the Ny-Carlsberg 2013 summer exhibition, "Degas' Method" which also included the Museum's large collection of Degas' pastels and paintings, it seems to me, Degas, besides his "Method", was concentrating, fascinated and obviously obsessed with 3 things: Young girls taking their bath/toilet, young ballet dancers, and the movements of the horse. I believe, advances in photography techniques, during the 19th C, in Degas' time, (1834-1917), were revealing certain movements, shots of positions in action that the eye, earlier, could not catch. See e. g. earlier times famous paintings of horses in the run, that today look un-natural to the trained eye, thanks to film and photography. The Photo technique can also be seen in Degas' drawings/paitings, where he cuts items in a photographer's way, as if consciously or arbitrarilly cutting part of some presons/horses/furnitures/items out of the frame, in the composition! In conclusion, I think, IMPRESSIONIST as he might have been, Degas stands out, at least for me, as one of the prominent artists who elevated the study of movement in painting and sculpture, to a high degree of euuuuuh REALISM!

Christian Siriano's Ballet-Inspired Spring 2013 Collection en Pointe

03:25
Designer Christian Siriano was en pointe in the execution of his ballet-inspired Spring 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week. The fourth season winner of "Project Runway" explained that his Spring collection was inspired by the whimsical movement of the ballet, specifically the Dream Ballet performed by the American Ballet Theatre. He was drawn to the costumes and layers of colorful tulle that reminded him of his favorite Degas painting, Three Ballet Dancers. Siriano wanted the collection to feel light and romantic like the dancers on stage, but also be modern enough to be wearable by today's elegant woman. The models glided down the runway to music by Brad Walsh wearing everything from classic crew necks to tiered tulle evening gowns in a color palette of pale pink, seafoam, light mint, ivory and pearly white. The models wore their hair in traditional ballerina buns by Aveda with pink dewy makeup to fit the theme by MAC Cosmetics. Most notably, Siriano debuted 10 different shoe designs, ranging from a heeled mary-jane pump, to an "estate shoe" covered in rhinestones, to Christian's take on a "ballerina oxford" style sneaker, the only time the designer featured flats in his runway show. Siriano said the shoes seen on the runway will inspire his Spring 2013 Christian Siriano for Payless Gold collection, which will hit stores in February next year. But that's not all Siriano debuted on Saturday; In a partnership with Proper Attire and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Siriano created the packaging for a line of condoms utilizing designs from the Spring 2013 collection to promote safe sex. And of course, each audience member was given a goodie bag with a trio of the condoms in sheer, dots, and color designs.

Degas and the Dance

00:31
A collaboration with Toledo Ballet, "Degas and the Dance" is an immersive experience, allowing visitors to learn about and interact with the work of the artist and his most prominent subject. French artist Edgar Degas (1834–1917) began studying dancers late in his career, yet ballet imagery (in sculpture, paintings, pastels, prints, and photography) constitutes more than half of his body of work. Degas was fixated on the ballet as a subject, especially the unrehearsed and unprompted movements of its dancers. "Degas and the Dance" juxtaposes the artist’s works with archival material and costumes pertaining to the development of Toledo’s own ballet company and its 75 years performing The Nutcracker. A ballet studio in the exhibition space welcomes visitors to watch scheduled rehearsals and to learn the art of ballet for themselves. Sponsored in part by Welltower, Inc., Christie's, and Taylor Cadillac.

Degas at the Ballet blockbuster opens in London

05:31
(14 Sep 2011) AP Television London, UK - September 13, 2011 1. Various of pastels and paintings of ballet dancers by Edgar Degas 2. SOUNDBITE (English) Jill DeVonyar, co-curator, Degas and the Ballet: "Actually there is a very tough side to Degas, that he went backstage, he looked at the dancers as they were working, he showed the sweat, he showed their labours, he showed them in really awkward moments as well as those magical moments on stage. And I think in that sense he was quite revolutionary, that he was daring to show you the work as well as the pleasure." 3. Various of pastels and paintings of ballet dancers by Edgar Degas 4. Wide of ballerina projections on interior of Royal Academy, Darcey Bussell approaching 5. Mid of Darcey Bussell (centre, in red dress) with others coming through exhibition, photograph of Edgar Degas on wall in background 6. Close of exhibition sign reading (English) "Degas and the Ballet, Picturing Movement" 7. Various of photograph of Edgar Degas 8. SOUNDBITE (English) Darcey Bussell, former Principal Dancer of The Royal Ballet: "He would stand in the wings and watch them over and over and make them - when they came off and how they would slump over and play with their costume and you could feel the nerves and everything and - it was just very different from what any painting was being done of dancers at that time. He was quite extraordinary." 9. Various of Degas paintings of ballet dancers 10. SOUNDBITE (English) Darcey Bussell, former Principal Dancer of The Royal Ballet: "It''s actually so similar. How the dancers are sitting on the side waiting for their next turn, for their next bit in the production, when they are going through rehearsals. You can see them working on steps and trying to perfect their turnout. In all the paintings there are so many images that we do nowadays all the time." 11. Wide of gallery, visitors looking at paintings 12. Various of Degas paintings of ballet dancers in rehearsal 13. Mid of gallery display with pastel drawings and bronze sculpture of ballet dancers, with film projection reflected in glass 14. Close of bronze dancer with film projection of ballerina in background: "Carlotta Zambelli" excerpt from "Montage Paul Nadar" 1896, Cinematheque francaise, Paris 15. SOUNDBITE (English) Jill DeVonyar, co-curator, Degas and the Ballet: "Then, as the technology advanced, by the 1880s you have photographers like Muybridge and Marey (Eadweard Muybridge and Etienne-Jules Marey) developing technologies that enabled them to capture figures in movement. At the same time Degas is developing different strategies for doing the same thing." 16. Various of dancer sculptures, with animated film of Eadweard Muybridge photographs "First Ballet Action" 1887, projected in background 17. Various of colour transparency, blow up of photograph by Edgar Degas, sculpture of dancer in foreground 18. Various of black and white prints, photographs of dancers by Degas 19. SOUNDBITE (English) Darcey Bussell, former Principal Dancer of The Royal Ballet: "For me what is so exciting in his paintings, what I''ve learned, is that he creates like a live performance within the paintings, they feel alive. And you can have this sense that he knew so much about the ballet technique and that he was so interested in that and what they were trying to perfect. And I think he just wanted to actually make them look really good." 20. Various studies for the sculpture "Little Dancer, Aged Fourteen", 1878 - 81, charcoal and pastel on paper 21. Part fact, part fiction, and set in the harsh backstage world of the Paris Opera Ballet, this world premiere Kennedy Center musical is inspired by the story of Marie van Goethem, a young ballerina who posed for Edgar Degas and became, inadvertently, the most famous dancer in the world. Torn by her family's poverty, her debt to the artist, and the lure of wealthy men, she struggles to keep her place in the corps de ballet--a girl on the verge of womanhood, caught between the conflicting demands of life and art. Starring four-time Tony Award winner Boyd Gaines (Gypsy, The Heidi Chronicles) as Edgar Degas, three-time Tony Award nominee Rebecca Luker (Mary Poppins, The Music Man) as adult Marie, and New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Tiler Peck as young Marie, the musical is penned by the Tony Award–winning team of book and lyrics writer Lynn Ahrens and composer Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Rocky), with direction and choreography by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (The Producers, Oklahoma!). Additional casting includes Polly Baird, Wendi Bergamini, Lauren Blackman, Sophia Anne Caruso, Janet Dickinson, Juliet Doherty, Nina Goldman, Kyle Harris, Seán Martin Hingston, Jolina Javier, Michael X. Martin, Michael McCormick, James A. Pierce III, Jenny Powers, Katelyn Prominski, Michele Ragusa, John Riddle, Amy Ruggiero, Joseph J. Little Dancer, Aged Fourteen by Edgar Degas

01:05
"Degas depicted young ballet dancers -- in performances, at rehearsals, or at moments of exhausted rest -- in numerous paintings, drawings, pastels, and monotypes. In 1878, he added sculpture to his investigation of the theme. A young dancer named Marie van Goethem posed for what would be the only sculpture that Degas exhibited in his lifetime. Originally executed in wax and shown in 1881, the work daringly incorporated real elements such as the dancer's tulle tutu and silk hair ribbon. The sculpture was cast in bronze around 1922, several years after Degas' death." Philadelphia Museum of Art

Ballets were extremely popular in France, and Degas spent hours studying the movement of ballerinas in their studios. Degas shocked critics by painting the ballerinas resting, yawning, adjusting their costumes, and scratching their backs. Critics were used to seeing only "beautiful" portraits of famous ballerinas. Mid Atlantic Ballet Company Dancers perform piece inspired by the "Fearless Girl" statue

06:46
In the Spring of 2017, a 50-inch tall bronze statue depicting a young girl was installed facing the famed Charging Bull in Bowling Green Park, New York City. Commissioned by State Street Global Advisors, its intent was to “draw attention to the need for more female representation on the boards of publicly traded companies”. In less than two years, the Fearless Girl has become much more than that, embraced by many who strive for gender equality not only in finance, but in all fields. The statue will move to a new location at the end of 2018, facing the NYSE, which appropriately has just named its first female president in its 226 year history. Fearless Girl was created by Delaware Artist Kristen Visbal. Ms. Visbal has graciously been Mid Atlantic Ballet’s guest of honor for its Fearless 5K and Fearless Artist Showcase, two featured events in MAB’s 20th Anniversary Season. Drawing inspiration from the Fearless Girls’ message of empowerment for girls and young women, MAB's Sandra Davis choreographed this piece which was performed by the MAB Company Dancers in our end-of-the year performance. The Sleeping Beauty: Re-awakening a classic ballet (The Royal Ballet)

07:01
An iconic work, The Sleeping Beauty was the first ballet to be performed at Covent Garden following World War II. Find out more at http://www.roh.org.uk Hear from Monica Mason, Steven McRae, Sarah Lamb and other members of the cast and creative team about the task of restaging a classic. The Sleeping Beauty holds a special place in The Royal Ballet's repertory. It was the ballet with which the Company reopened the Royal Opera House in 1946 after World War II, announcing its move from Sadler's Wells to Covent Garden. Margot Fonteyn danced the role of the beautiful princess Aurora in the first performance, with Robert Helpmann as Prince Florimund. Sixty years later, in 2006, the original 1946 staging was revived, returning Oliver Messel's wonderful designs and glittering costumes to the stage once again. Marius Petipa's classic 19th-century choreography is combined with newly created sections by Frederick Ashton, Anthony Dowell and Christopher Wheeldon. The ballet contains many memorable moments, from the iconic Rose Adagio, when Aurora meets her four royal suitors, to the vigorous hunting dances and the famous waltz for Aurora and her Prince. Throughout, Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky's score conveys passion and intensity.

Behind the Curtain: Director/Choreographer Susan Stroman on Little Dancer

04:06
Simeone, Justin Urso, Lyrica Woodruff, and Tony Award winner Karen Ziemba.

The History Of Chokers

Choker necklaces: a relic of the 1990s or the 2590s BC? I take a closer look into the history of one of my favorite trends from elementary school and adulthood: the choker. From gold beads to plastic, it's definitely evolved over the past few thousand years. Don’t forget to click the bell to turn on post notifications! This video is NOT sponsored!
