Make this New Orleans classic and you might just catch ALL the men ;) These beignets coated in honey and powdered sugar are an absolutely delicious breakfast treat.
2 3/4 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 tsp. Baking powder
1/2 tsp. Baking soda
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp. Nutmeg
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg, beaten
1/2 tsp. Vanilla
Vegetable oil for frying
Powdered sugar for dusting
Combine dry ingredients, whisk together.
Combine wet ingredients in large bowl, whisk. Stir in dry ingredients.
Dust work surface with flour.
Roll out dough til 1/2 inch thick.
Cut into 2 1/2 inch squares.
Pour 2 inches of vegetable oil into large saucepan and heat to 325 degrees F. Check heat with cooking thermometer.
Carefully drop 2-3 beignets into the oil at a time a fry for approximately 3 minutes on each side.
Place on paper towel and dust with powdered sugar.

They were so good😊 my family loved them they ate them before I even got a chance to take a picture❤️ 100% would make again. The only thing was that mine didn’t poof up as much only sections we’re puffy. Have any advice for next time? I did love them thank you so much for the recipe!
This is a South African staple, we just call it "Vetkoek" or Fatcake in English*
We just don't eat it with powdered sugar, served cut open and spread with butter and syrup or honey, it's delish!!! Or we eat it filled with savoury mince*
