Tempura Fried Ice Cream Servings: 6 INGREDIENTS 2 pints ice cream 2 11-ounce pound cake loaves 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 egg 1 cup cold water Oil, for frying PREPARATION 1. Scoop out 6 balls of ice cream onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet, and freeze for at least an hour, or until firm. 2. Slice pound cake into 1-2 inch slices. 3. Lay three slices of pound cake on plastic wrap side by side and flatten with a rolling pin. 4. Wrap frozen ice cream ball in pound cake so it’s fully enclosed. Freeze for at least an hour, or until firm. 5. Make tempura batter by mixing flour, egg, and water. 6. Heat oil to 400˚F (200˚C). 7. Coat the wrapped ice cream in tempura batter. 8. Carefully lower the coated ice cream into the oil and cook until golden brown, 15-30 seconds. Don’t cook for too long or else the ice cream will melt. 9. Carefully lower the puff pastry wrapped ice cream into the oil and cook until golden brown, around 45 seconds. Don’t cook for too long or else the ice cream will melt. 7. Cover and refrigerate the egg mixture. 5. Take the coated ice cream ball and coat again in the egg mixture. Completely cover with panko and freeze. 6. Heat oil to 400˚F (200˚C). 7. Carefully lower the coated ice cream into the oil and cook until brown, 15-30 seconds. Don’t cook for too long or else the ice cream will melt. 8. Serve immediately with your toppings of choice. 9. I had deep fried ice cream once in my life at a Hibachi restaurant and I still think about it so often. The most delicious thing I've ever eaten. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but the deep fry gives it just enough of a savory flavor to balance out the sweet and, omg. Thinking about it has me tearing up a bit. Soooo good.

I also make fried ice cream but I use bread instead of pound cake or panko. You can use it if u want but the bread gives the ice cream a nice texture to it

Fried ice cream I ate in a fun fair was soooo good... (I think 7 yrs before) They just made a cornflour slurry and dipped in it. And drizzle of chocolate. Even though the crust was hot the ice cream was cold! {^_^}

Pretty stupid u used a pound cake to protect the ice cream and used tempura batter. Why not use a pound cake and panko bread crumbs???? Of course the pound cake and batter will work like wtf is this shit?

I would suggest mixing the last 2 methods. So wrapping in the pound cake, then freezing, then coating in the panko. My parents used to own a restaurant and that's what we did. Worked and tasted awesome

0:14 - I think as long as you insulate ice cream with something, I think it should work? 1:50 - I like the crunch, but panko is wrong flavor, so if we do a different kind of crust probably will taste better

In malaysia, we did it the simplest way.. White bread.. Ice cream on top.. Another white bread and cut n seal the edge by using wide-mouth cup..

My mom uses Frosted Flakes and adds honey, then rolls the balls of ice cream in the Frosted Flakes and make friend tortillas with sugar and it’s so good😂😂

My aunt makes this for her Chinese restaurant in Australia. She starts by wrapping a pre chilled ball of ice cream with thin sheets of sliced pound cake. Then roll in egg wash and then roll in Panko bread crumbs to fully coat the whole ball. When frying we found that holding the ball in a wire basket and spooning the oil over about 3-4 times until golden brown and you’re good to go
